Container Detention

IMPORT DETENTION IS CHARGED AFTER EXPIRY OF THE FREE TIME PERIOD WHICH IS:

  GENERAL CONTAINERS (incl. GP, OT, FR): Ten (10) calendar days free from the availability date of the vessel.
  REEFER CONTAINERS (incl. NOR): Seven (7) calendar days free from the availability date of the vessel.

NB: Calendar days includes weekends and/or public holidays.

Please note that containers not returned after 45 days may be considered lost or stolen resulting in a charge for the depreciated value of the container as stipulated by our Principals.

All daily container detention charges are subject to 10% GST.

A monthly invoice will be raised until the return of the empty container to the COSCO depot nominated on the Delivery Order.

If for any reason you wish to dispute the detention invoice, please do so in writing, otherwise we look forward to receiving payment within 7 days.

Monthly statements will be issued. Any amounts that remain outstanding after 30 days will be placed in the hands of our collection agency or solicitor for further action (an administration fee may be charged for these accounts).

Freight Forwarders/Customs Brokers - please collect container detention from your clients, as Five Star Shipping will hold the Consignee (as stated on the Bill of Lading) liable for all charges.

It is important to note that COSCO require their containers to be returned within the specified free time period. COSCO containers should not be used for storage purposes. After the expiry of free time, detention incurred will be due and payable, in full, at the rates as listed in the above table.
